Our Story

Michael Georgala Enterprises has been based in Hermanus since 2000. I strive to provide an excellent standard of service to the community at large through commitment, participation, and integrity.

Michael Georgala (Mike) obtained a BSc. Quantity Surveying degree at the University of Cape Town, followed by a National Diploma in Property Valuation. With this set of skills he has successfully completed many projects and assignments. More recently, a course in Construction Adjudication was completed to enhance his knowledge of standard form contracts in use in South Africa — knowledge that is also useful when performing a lead agent role on a building project.

Mike's career began in 1982 as a student employee at Borckenhagen & Louw Quantity Surveyors in Cape Town, followed by three years on road construction contracts with LTA Earthworks (Pty) Ltd. from 1985. From 1986 to 1991 he worked as a Professional Quantity Surveyor at Ross Kat Heinzelmann in Nelspruit, before a period of self-employment in Nelspruit from 1992. Between 1997 and 1999 he served as Senior Quantity Surveyor at the Turks & Caicos office of BCQS Limited, handling cost administration on construction projects to the value of approximately US$1,750,000 — including the full Quantity Surveying service for the new police station in Grand Turk, a feasibility report on a multi-million-dollar mixed residential, commercial and hotel development, measurement and tender documentation for alterations and additions to the British West Indies Collegiate school, and valuation assignments on the islands. Michael Georgala Enterprises was established in Hermanus in 2000, where Mike has practised ever since.

The success of the business is certainly also due to the administrative support given by Mike's wife, Anneke, who is a Chartered Accountant, and his mother-in-law, Sandra, who assists with admin.

A recent, nice development is the story of Jacques Rossouw, who did holiday work at the practice as a student in 2012 and has now, after working in New Zealand for many years, returned to South Africa and is based in Hermanus. Jacques shares space at our offices and we hope to work together on future projects. He has obtained skills in model mapping, a means of extracting quantities quickly and accurately from 3D digitised drawings.
